A Recipe For Hypertension: High Fructose Corn Syrup

A diet high in fructose increases the risk of developing high blood pressure (hypertension), according to a paper presented at the American Society of Nephrology's 42nd Annual Meeting and Scientific Exposition in San Diego, California. The findings suggest that cutting back on processed foods and beverages that contain high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) may help prevent hypertension.

Food Rating System Scores High With Consumers

Grocery shoppers in a new study report that a one to 100-point food rating system would help them choose what goes into their carts. However, a nutrition index alone is not enough to change the buying and eating habits of U.S. consumers, said a health behavior expert who was not part of the study. About 800 adults participated in online marketing research and two-hour focus groups about the NuVal Nutritional Scoring System.
